The trip
Grace Ridge is a point-to-point traverse. We drop you at Kayak Beach on the north side of Sadie Cove and pick you up in Tutka Bay on the south side. In between: 7.5 miles of open, above-tree-line ridge with views across Kachemak Bay to the Homer Spit and out to the volcanoes on the Alaska Peninsula.
What kind of hike is this?
Grace Ridge is the state park’s signature ridge hike. Elevation gain is around 2,700 feet total, and the exposed ridge can be windy. Weather matters — on a clear day it’s one of the best hikes in Alaska. In fog you’ll see the inside of the cloud you’re in.
The logistics
Because it’s a point-to-point, timing your pickup matters more than for out-and-back trails. We’ll help you plan drop and pickup times when you book. Give yourself 7–10 hours ashore. Bring extra water — there’s none on the ridge.

No — Grace Ridge is point-to-point. Drop-off is at Kayak Beach, pickup is in Tutka Bay. We’ll coordinate timing when you book.
What’s the best time of year for Grace Ridge?
Mid-June through mid-September. Earlier and there’s snow on the ridge; later and weather windows close fast. Peak conditions are usually late July.
Is Grace Ridge dog-friendly?
Yes for fit dogs on leash. There’s no water on the ridge — you’ll need to carry enough for your dog too.
